The mailing from EarthLink arrived the other day. “DIAL-UP FOR JUST $6.95 a month for first 6 months” shouted the package text. The package text went on to let me know that this isn’t an offer for just anyone; “IT’S EXCLUSIVELY FOR RECONNECTING CUSTOMERS LIKE YOU.”
Hmm, while I was a very satisfied EarthLink customer when I first escaped the clutches of AOL (with its bloated software, slow connect times and propensity for disconnects at just the most inopportune moments), those days have come and gone.
Dial-up is not an option in this world of streaming audio and video–even if it offers an “accelerator” feature that allows surfing up to five times faster than regular dial-up.” Coincidently, I needed to download some updated software for one of my digital cameras. As this screen shot shows, dial-up just doesn’t compare.

Sorry, Earthlink!

I’m not sure of the point I’m trying to make. Or is there a point?

Niel,
The point that I would make is that we can always try to go backwards with technology, but it isn’t going to be fun.
Thanks for commenting.
